Dr. FRANCESCO LEONARDI
· Born in Catania 23 November 1953.
· Earned a degree in Medicine in November 1977 with maximum votes.
· Specialized in Geriatrics and Gerontology (Catania’s Università degli Studi, July 1980).
· Specialized in Nutrition Sciences (Padua’s Università degli Studi, July 1983).
· University researcher since August 1980 at the department of Gerontology and Geriatrics of Catania’s Università degli Studi.
· In 1980 was appointed professor by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Catania’s Università degli Studi, in its School of specialization in Geriatrics and Gerontology, a post he held until 1984.
· Since November 1992 has been Head of the department of Dietetics at Catania’s Azienda Ospedaliera Cannizzaro.
· In 1990 was elected member of the regional board of directors of the Sicilian branch of ADI (Italian Association of Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition), and from 1996 to 1998 was president of the same board.
· In 1998 and 2006 was elected member of ADI’s national board of directors.
· 2006-2010 – Secretary General of ADI.
· In 1998 he was appointed professor of Dietetics by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Catania’s Università degli Studi, a post he currently still holds.
· Throughout his career he has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications.
· Participates actively in congresses, training courses and refresher courses, at 135 of which he was invited as speaker or moderator.
· As Scientific Director he has organized: ADI’s XVI National Congress, 2004; ADI’s XII National Course, 2007; ADI’s XIII National Course, 2009.
· In 2009 was nominated:
o member of the “Tavolo Tecnico sulla Ristorazione Ospedaliera ed Assistenziale” established by the Italian Ministry of Health;
o member of the technical-scientific committee “School & Food” established by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR).
· Since June 2010 has been Secretary General of FeSIN (Federazione delle Società Italiane di Nutrizione)
· Since July the 7th 2014 President of FeSIN
